Terry Murray's seasonal look at the course.
I am constantly amazed and not a little disconcerted by the speed at which new golfing seasons come round. No sooner have we set the course for winter usage, but the daffs are flowering, the rabbits are doing what rabbits do best, and a new Club Captain is testing his car parking space for size before posing for photos at his Drive-in.
But I hope members have noticed the work carried out during the cold winter months. Tree Surgeons have lopped and pruned the larger trees and most bush lines and scrub have been tidied up. In the Clubhouse the restaurant area has been decorated and refurbished with new curtains, tables and chairs. The bar area will be next for an upgrade hopefully within 1 to 2 years. The new Smoking Cabin has yet to find it's permanent resting spot but that will be sorted soon.
Looking forward I'm pleased to report that following forceful representations from the club Cooks Bridle Path is to be resurfaced. It has been agreed the work will be carried out in October. Some disruption to the club must be expected for a few days. Watch the Notice Board for an announcement. Next winter I have set course paths as the priority.
Saturday booking procedure appears to working, but just to reiterate; phonelines will be open at 8.00 am on Saturday to book tee times for the following Saturday. The one exception is for club knock out matches played on Saturdays which can be booked 2 weeks in advance.
Finally may I touch on the subject of slow play and the frustrations sometimes experienced by some members. The accepted courteous protocol when any match finds itself a clear hole behind the match in front is to wave the match behind them through. Indeed that match has the right to politely ask to be allowed to play through. Please remember this important piece of golf etiquette.
